Clinical Nursing Lead/Diabetes Nurse Educator
Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, Diabetes Education Program, Eastern Urban Zone
St.John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Krista graduated from Memorial University School of Nursing in 2005. As a new graduate, she worked in obstetrics, gynecology, and orthopedics units. A diagnosis of type 1 diabetes as a child fueled a passion in her to help others live healthy and fulfilling lives with diabetes. In 2009, Krista graciously accepted a diabetes nurse educator position within Eastern Health’s Regional Diabetes Program. She then moved into the Clinical Nursing Lead position within Eastern Health’s Regional Diabetes Program in 2015.
As a clinical lead, Krista has satisfied her desire to educate people living with diabetes, assist with minimizing barriers to care, advocate for fellow educators, and promote optimal health outcomes through policy development, program planning, and mentorship.
Krista completed her Master of Nursing with a Leadership Focus through Athabasca University in 2020. Throughout her master’s, she focused on research to enhance the delivery of care and client outcomes within her program.
When not at work, Krista loves to hike, especially on the East Coast Trail, which spans over 300km on the Avalon Peninsula. She also adores her husband, John, and two dogs (Janey and Samantha). She can be found walking with them daily!
