Dr. Petra Kienesberger is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Dalhousie University, located at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick. After earning her PhD degree in lipid biology from the University of Graz, Austria, she pursued postdoctoral research in cardiac energy metabolism at the University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Kienesberger joined Dalhousie University as an Assistant Professor in 2013, where her research examines how bioactive lipids influence energy metabolism and function of the heart, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue in health and during obesity/insulin resistance/diabetes. Dr. Kienesberger is a core member of the Dalhousie Cardiac Research Excellence Wave (DALCrew) and co-founder of the pan-Canadian IMPART team (https://impart.team/). Her laboratory is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Dr. Kienesberger was also the recipient of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada National New Investigator award. She also received the Roberto Bolli Young Investigator Award from the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences – North American Section. Dr. Kienesberger served as a reviewer for national and international grant panels and on the organizing committee of national and international conferences, including the International Society for Heart Research conference in Halifax in 2018. She is a member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, Nutrients, and Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine-Cardiovascular Metabolism.
