Internal Medicine Resident
McGill University
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Alexandra Katz, MD, MSc is a first-year Internal Medicine resident at McGill University with a strong academic and research background in endocrinology, particularly type 1 diabetes (T1D). She completed her Doctor of Medicine at the Université de Montréal while concurrently earning a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, where her research focused on developing and testing an online platform to enhance healthcare professionals’ confidence and knowledge in managing T1D.
Alexandra’s passion for endocrinology is deeply personal, her younger brother was diagnosed with T1D in 2007, inspiring her to pursue a career that integrates patient-centered care with evidence-based innovation. Over the past several years, she has contributed to multiple clinical and translational research projects, including studies on exercise physiology, continuous glucose monitoring, advanced insulin delivery strategies, stigma in diabetes, and the interface design of diabetes management platforms. She has presented her work nationally and internationally, and her research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals.
Currently, Alexandra is leading and collaborating on several projects, including a mixed-methods study on insulin adjustments for people with T1D and gastroparesis, and a project investigating how socioeconomic status influences technology use and health outcomes in adults with T1D. Her work emphasizes patient engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and translating research findings into practical clinical tools.
Alexandra’s academic achievements include two Diabète Québec research grants and the Canada Graduate Scholarship – Master’s (CGS-M). Outside of her clinical and research commitments, Alexandra acts as a peer mentor for students in nutritional sciences and has been a long-time volunteer with Breakthrough T1D, leading fundraising initiatives and participating in community outreach events.
Her career vision is to advance the care of people with T1D as a clinician scientist, combining rigorous research, education, and compassionate clinical practice to foster stronger connections between patients, caregivers, and the scientific community.
